Cut, sew, make some fabric
My pattern pieces are cut out. I’ve cut strips of fabric from the shirts and started stitching them together to make fabric. I’ll then cut the pattern pieces from the patchwork fabric.
Diamond pattern ready to print
I have made a 3D model of an emerald cut diamond on Blender. This will form the pattern for my up-cycled shirt diamond.
2 facets joined
It’s working! My improvised piecing combined with pattern piecing is working really well.
‘Need’ diamond display breakthrough!
Self-adhesive foam core board - BOOM! Look how good this looks!
Add some sparkle to the rags
I sewed some sequin film to the painting rags today - it works!
Random piecing is (hopefully) the winner
Today I tried cutting random shapes from the painting rags and stitching them together.
Self-imposed rules & regulations (again)
The self-imposed rules and restrictions are creeping back! I realise now this happens with every artwork I make.
2 ideas to speed it up
After reading lots of quilting blogs my mind continues to expand with ideas. These two are going to help me get this artwork done.
Need it like I need water
This is a ‘diamond’ mini quilt that I made in 2016 called ‘Need it like I need water’.
The different joining method
I’ve tried a different way of joining the pieces together - I’m not using a backing fabric to stitch them onto.
This ‘mistake’ could work out better
This facet of my diamond ‘Need’ was going so well until I made a big mistake. But it might just turn out better now, who knows?
Facet #4 finished
Wonky cutting, wonky sewing, steam iron…but this diamond facet still looks fab. I can work with this, no worries!
Sewing corner is functional!
I’ve moved furniture and stuff, stuff, stuff around again and now I have a functioning sewing corner in the studio!
The sewing tips work
A friend gave me some sewing hacks to try and they’re awesome! I’ll get these facets stitched even faster now!
Trying to break the ‘self-imposed’ rules
I tried a different sewing technique with the shapes within the diamond facet.
