This ‘mistake’ could work out better

I started another facet for the ‘Need’ diamond:

I drew the shapes on. Numbered each shape. So far, so good. But then:

I cut all of the pieces out before I’d traced them onto another piece of fabric - the fabric base I stitch all the cut-out painting rags to. Whoops.

This could be a good mistake to make though. I’m going to try cutting out all the small pieces in the painting rags and just stitching them together without the backing fabric. It might turn out to be easier, who knows!

I didn’t leave it in this mess, I sorted the pieces into ‘value’ piles:

For this facet there is no ‘value 1’ (white), just, 2, 3, 4 and 5 (the darkest).

I have to be careful not to let the pieces get too small or I will never finish it. I can add detail to the diamond with embroidery or paint after the patchwork is done. The pieces in this facet are probably too small. I’ll still continue with these small pieces, just to see how it goes.
