The most important things

Big, positive life changes are happening. How will these changes affect my artwork? I don’t know. I do know that my heart and mind are clearer and the way forward is not nearly as foggy as it has been these past few years. I can take a step back now and see the most important things (in regards to my artwork) are:

  • Exploring value - within subject matter (gold, diamonds, etc.) and materials used (fabric scraps, painting rags, etc.)

  • Exploring reflections - reflections of myself or others painted within the artwork or literal reflections of the audience using mirrored surfaces

  • Exploring beauty and aesthetics - new materials vs. fabric waste, symmetry vs. asymmetry, tasteful vs. grotesque

  • Exploring storytelling - within the subject matter (gold kangaroo with diamond eyes with the reflection of me in the goldkangaroo’s body) or materials used (scrap fabric from a wedding dress or painting rags)

I am so grateful to be making the artworks I’m currently making. Thank you for joining me on the adventure!
