Spiky frame

I have been thinking more about the presentation of Young & Free, specifically the frame.

This is what I’d like to do:

Sketch of a frame idea for the painting 'Young & Free'

The frame would be made of plain gold moulding, about 3cm thick. At the midway point on all sides a larger gold moulding would be used to create ‘spikes’. A right angle spike or less (to make it pointier).

I came up with this idea because I don’t know if frame mouldings come in the size/length I need for the height of the painting, so what better way to solve the problem (if there is one - I haven’t checked the available sizes yet) than to add a decorative spike mid-frame.

I like that it looks beautiful and sinister. The spikes replicate the sharp diamond claws in a way. They say to me ‘keep off/stand back/don’t touch the artwork/it’s sharp’.

It is also lush and expensive and an opportunity to show beautiful craftsmanship. It would ‘elevate’ the painting in my eyes.
