I’m brave, I’m back

My diamond painting is crying in the studio: ‘Why wont you finish me Lucy?’ I’ll be there tomorrow painting, just you wait.

Tonight I am sharing some thoughts on the meaning behind the painting ‘Bloom’.

I always imagined this painting to be bigger. 3m x 3m (about 10’ x 10’) at least. The audience turns a corner to enter a huge, white, vast space like a warehouse, completely empty save the painting on the far wall. It looks small from this distance but as the audience approaches it, the sound of their movement bouncing off the walls, the painting gets bigger and bigger. It’s like the diamond is coming at them, a meteorite hurtling through space.

From a distance it looks pretty, but up close it is messy, imperfect. There are scribbles and drips. Bits coloured out of the lines.

Rather than try and finish this tonight, I am going to call this some thoughts on this painting, to be continued.

Look at me, I’m finding balance!
