The ‘Bloom’ painting is finished!

I got to do some unpacking in my new studio today, I also visited the old one where ‘Bloom’ is still on the wall… and I finished the painting! I’ll give it two days and then I’ll do the first isolation coat.

Letting the painting rest before finishing it is sometimes a good idea.

I painted fast today. I had the ‘wrong’ coloured paints, the ones I intended to use were at the new studio but it turned out for the best I think. I made the darker bits much darker with Paynes Gray and Raw Umber (I intended to use Carbon Black), some sections got a scribbly wash of Titanium White and Hansa Yellow Medium (I intended to use Hansa Yellow Light and a different consistency of Titanium White) and then I painted some whiteish shapes all over the diamond with the leftover paint.

The mark the removalists made was very noticeable. Because I paint in thin washes of colour I couldn’t just paint over it and blend new paint into the background. I like that it looks like shards exploding off the main diamond. I’m very happy. It’s going to look GREAT once it’s varnished and stretched!

Please excuse the noise in the video there was a thunderstorm outside. 5 minutes later the clouds had completely gone and it was sunny and hot.
