‘Bloom’ grisaille

Today I began the ‘grisaille’ layer. This layer usually takes the longest so I’m not too worried that I didn’t get it all done.

The beginnings of the grisaille layer of 'Bloom'

(grisaille: noun, a method of painting in grey monochrome, typically to imitate sculpture)

I am mixing Paynes Grey and Raw Umber to make my grey. I mix the colours as I go so that some bits look more blue, some bits more brown.

It’s a bit ugly at the moment. I am so excited, it is going to look so good when it’s finished!!
