‘Bloom’ - Layer #4

Today was Ultramarine Violet and Pyrrole Orange day!

It’s usually at this part of the painting process that I question ‘Is it going to work? These colours seem all wrong!’ But then I look at my notes and remember that I have planned this out. I see colour in layers (of paint) now, like the layers I have written below (abbreviated).

I spend time before beginning a painting working out the layers and writing them down. I learnt to do this years ago as I was wasting so much time having to re-think through what each layer had been and what would go on top every time I started to paint. And as you can see, there are a lot of layers, so it was a lot of time wasted. Now when I come into the studio, I look at my list, get the paint out that is next on the list and paint. The creative part of figuring out what colour is next has already been done. No time wasted.
