A Diamond a Day – September 2016

A diamond a day keeps the doctor away – or something like that. To help keep my artwork fresh and healthy I am making a small, quick collage study of a diamond every day.

The ‘A Diamond a Day’ Project:

Painting or drawing a diamond a day helps me plan and make paintings such as my Yellow Diamond. Quick sketches and studies ensure that the art work is not laboured over – mistakes are definitely allowed!

Even if I have been out all day I still have to go into the studio and make a collage. If it’s late at night I have to make the collage quickly otherwise all the ice cream will be eaten without me.

The making of a diamond collage with markers and paper.

I have a box of old paper I used to make collages out of years ago. There are definitely some little gems of paper in there – look at that hot pink, orange and purple flocked paper from 30 September’s diamond study! Gorgeous!

This Month’s Sparkling Highlights:

Below are three of my favourite diamonds for September. My favourite material this month has been the holographic foil (featured in Yellow Pear Shaped Diamond below). As I walk past the collage the holographic foil glitters!

How I Made a Bird Silk Painting

11 November, 2015

Cassowaries are found in northeast Australia, and on this piece of silk!
Scraps of silk can come in handy. I used this small piece of white, textured silk satin to make a bird silk painting featuring a cassowary. Cassowaries are stunning, big birds and can be found in northeastern Australia, Papua New Guinea and Indonesia. […]
